Hydro-Power Projects endanger Nation’s security

India is being encircled by Pakistan and China and there is a small possibility that we may go to war.

The construction of Hydropower Dams is endangering the country’s security claim. Recently China has defied India for the war in the Doklam controversy. If China invades, then these hydroelectric projects will be first in its target. Tehri Dam is very close to China and if it attacks on it, then whole of northern India will destroyed by its water.

According to a report by the American Air Force Historical Agency (page 44, paragraph 1) in the year 1952, the US had aerial assault on North Korea, due to which the Tucson Dam of North Korea had suffered and suffered by a large number of losses. Due to the breaking of this dam, buildings, large bridges, roads, main railways lines were destroyed.

According to a report by T. Shivaji Rao, a famous geo-scientific Professor of India – “On breaking of the Tehri dam, the widespread impact will be up to Bengal. Water will overflow from 8 to 10 meters In Meerut, Hapur and Bulandshahar . ”

People living in the border areas have an important role in ensuring the nation’s security. They slow down the invaders and provide information to our army. Hydropower projects are leading to migration of the people form the border areas and thus an invader will have a free run.

Local residents are forced to migrate after their lands have taken for project. People are unable to get permanent employment in the projects and they become unemployed and migrate. These Projects gives rise to landslides as in the Chaain village of Vishnu prayag Project, near the power house. Due to this people had migrated from here.

By constructing a project, a large area becomes submerged in water. Therefore, firstly the regional residents are to be displaced, which is another reason for migration. For more details of migration from Uttarakhand, you can read our earlier post on migration.

The question arises why we are endangering the nation’s security by making these projects when other alternatives of electricity generation such as solar, nuclear and thermal power from imported coal are available. Are such destructive policies of the Government desirable?
